Throughout the last NHL season, Aleksander Barkov who has been sidelined due to a knee injury sustained a serious injury in the Florida Panthers’ second regular season game against the San Jose Sharks.

The Panthers captain injured his knee again, which bent in an unfortunate manner. The Finnish player immediately left for the locker room, throwing his gloves in frustration along the way.

The doctor who analyzes NHL player injuries, Harjas Grewal, commented on Barkov’s injury on the messaging service X.

– Barkov’s knee experienced an inward stress. Most likely this would lead to a tear of the MCL, or the inner collateral ligament of the knee, Grewal analyzed.

According to Grewal, the injury is not as serious as last season, but it should still keep Barkov out for over a month, according to the man’s assessment.

– The duration of absence depends on the severity of the injury. Often it is a grade two injury, in which case the recovery time would be about 4–6 weeks, Grewal estimated.

The Panthers also lost their second regular season game in overtime. This time the Sharks were better at home, winning 4–3.
