The Minnesota Wild’s superstar forward Kirill Kaprizov could become the NHL’s new salary king.

Sportsnet’s insider reporter Chris Johnston believes that Kaprizov’s upcoming contract extension could break the threshold of a $15 million average salary.

– I believe that Kaprizov will get more than Leon Draisaitl. I wouldn’t be surprised if the salary is closer to $15 million, Johnston says on the Steve Dangle Podcast.

Edmonton Oilers’ megastar Draisaitl signed a massive eight-year, $112 million contract last season. The German is currently the NHL’s salary king with an average salary of $14 million.

Kaprizov’s contract, which has an average salary of $9 million, expires next summer. The Russian talent is expected to sign an extension during this summer.

The title of the NHL’s next salary king is also contested by Connor McDavid, whose contract also expires after next season. However, it is possible that McDavid may settle for a cheaper and shorter contract than Kaprizov.
