IS: Tappara experienced an unfortunate setback
Tappara has received bad news just before the start of the Liiga season.
In the practice match played on Wednesday between Jokerit and Tappara, Tappara’s alternate captain Julius Mattila was injured. He hurt his shoulder in the second period and had to leave the game as a result.
Additional information about Mattila’s situation leaked on Thursday.
– Mattila was injured in yesterday’s game and he will be out for a while. We’re talking weeks, said Tappara’s sports director Janne Vuorinen to Ilta-Sanomat.
Mattila, 28, has represented Tappara for two seasons and he was part of the team that won the Finnish championship last spring. Mattila recorded 27 points in 49 regular season games last season, with 8 goals and 19 assists, as well as 4 points in 18 playoff games.
Jokerit defeated Tappara in Wednesday’s practice match with a score of 4-3 after a shootout.
