New York Islanders have signed a lucrative contract extension with Aleksandr Romanov.

The 25-year-old defenseman inked an eight-year extension with the Islanders on Monday. The deal, worth a total of 50 million dollars, ensures Romanov an average annual salary of 6.25 million dollars.

Romanov, who spent the first years of his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens, played 64 regular-season games in the past season, tallying 4+16=20 points.
