IL: This is how Mikael Granlund reacted to his teammate’s huge offer
Iltalehti interviewed Mikael Granlund, who shared his reaction to Leo Carlsson’s record offer.
Carlsson, 21, is a restricted free agent, which means other teams can send him so-called offer sheet proposals. The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Friday that they made a five-year contract offer with a record annual salary of 18 million dollars.
Granlund and Carlsson both play for the Anaheim Ducks.
– Of course, such news always comes as a bit of a surprise, but that’s part of this business. All players understand that. And, and… that’s part of the deal, let’s put it that way, Granlund commented to Iltalehti.
Now the Ducks must respond to the Flyers’ offer if they wish to keep Carlsson. If the Ducks lose their Swedish forward, the team will receive four first-round draft picks from Philadelphia.
– Leo is incredibly good and certainly our best player. He will definitely play at a high level in the NHL for a long time. Those decisions are not mine to make, but of course, I am happy for Leo. He got an amazing deal, Granlund said to IL.
The Anaheim Ducks selected Carlsson as the second player in the entire draft in 2023. The forward scored 78 points in 82 games last season when combining the regular season and playoffs.
