IL: The biggest star of the Young Lions is missing from the World Championships?
The Young Lions may face a severe setback just before the start of the U20 World Championships.
Buffalo Sabres’ Finnish forward Konsta Helenius revealed to Iltalehti that his departure for the World Championships is not certain at all.
– You always want to represent your country. If the employer wants me to go and they let me participate in the tournament, then in that case, I will go, Helenius tells Iltalehti.
19-year-old Helenius has been playing brilliantly lately with the Sabres’ AHL team, the Rochester Americans.
– Right now, the Buffalo Sabres want me to stay here in Rochester and continue the same good game that I have played at the beginning of the season, the Finnish forward continues.
Helenius has represented Finland twice in the U20 World Championships. He would be Finland’s absolute number one center and brightest star this year.
– If the situation is the same later in December, then I cannot go to the championships. You have to listen to the employer. The club decides this matter, Helenius explained.
Helenius has played 24 games in the AHL this season, scoring 8+12=20 points. A product of Tappara, he is in his second season in the AHL.
