Danish defender Philip Larsen, 36, announced on Monday after the match that he will be ending his extensive playing career with his youth club Esbjerg Energy.

For Finnish ice hockey fans, Larsen first became known during the NHL lockout in the 2012–2013 season when he represented Rauman Lukko. He stood out particularly alongside his countrymen Mikkel Bødker and Frans Nielsen. At that time, Larsen recorded 15 points with 5 goals and 10 assists in 27 games in the Liiga.

Later, Larsen returned to Finland and played for one season with Helsinki Jokerit in the 2015–2016 season.

In the NHL, Larsen played a total of 151 games representing the Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks. In addition to his North American years, he also had a long career in the KHL, where he played a total of 361 games over seven seasons, achieving 60 goals and 149 assists for a total of 209 points.
