An exceptional large contract was crafted in the NHL for an exceptionally inexperienced player.

Reporter Elliotte Friedman reports on X that defenseman Tristan Luneau has signed a six-year extension with the Anaheim Ducks worth a total of 43.2 million dollars. This guarantees the 22-year-old defenseman an average annual income of 7.2 million dollars.

The contract is historic, as Luneau has only played 14 games in the NHL. Friedman notes that no player with so few NHL games has previously received such a large contract.

Anaheim strongly believes in the potential of their young defenseman. The Ducks see Luneau among their top four defensemen in the future and decided to secure him with a long-term contract at this stage.

Anaheim drafted Luneau in the second round in 2022. He has recorded 2+2 points in the 14 NHL games he has played.

Last season, Luneau spent most of his time with AHL team San Diego Gulls, where he scored 10+31=41 points in 70 games. His previous seasons have also been marred by injuries.

Ducks believe in the player…kept him in AHL all last year after some previous injuries. Think he will be a top 4 D.

And, and they’ve learned, take care
