The American forward Tristan Ashbrook, who played for HIFK last season, is returning to North America.

The Utica Comets, playing in the AHL, announced on Sunday that they have signed a one-year contract with Ashbrook for the 2026–27 season.

The 27-year-old forward represented HIFK in 40 regular season games last season, scoring 6+10=16 points, which were modest compared to expectations. In the playoffs, Ashbrook recorded two assists in five games.

This move takes the forward back to the New Jersey Devils organization. In the 2023–24 season, he played in the ECHL for the Adirondack Thunder, where he finished with 32+25=57 points in 69 games.
