HIFK fans have had enough – now a radical decision has been made

The supporter groups of HIFK have decided to skip the club’s home match against Jokerit. The reason behind the November derby boycott is the ticket prices for the match.

Stadin Kingit, Inferno 1897, HIFK Fan Club, and Folket 1897 announced on Wednesday that they will not participate in the HIFK home match scheduled for November 11.

The decision is related to a ticket dispute that began last summer. The supporter groups stated in July that they would also boycott Jokerit’s first home match against HIFK.

The price of the ticket for the section reserved for HIFK supporters at Jokerit’s home match was reported to be 75 euros. The groups had hoped for different pricing from HIFK for the November derby as well.

On Ticketmaster, the cheapest ticket for HIFK’s home match currently costs 60 euros. The most expensive regular ticket costs 160 euros, and the cheapest children’s ticket is available for 33.50 euros.

The supporter groups believe that a local match does not justify what they consider excessively high prices.

– We gave our own club the opportunity to react and show everyone that things can be done differently. However, this has not happened. A mere local match is not a sufficient reason for unreasonable ticket prices, the statement says.

The groups also highlight the broader significance of ticket prices.

– Pricing normalizes the idea that purchasing power determines who events belong to. We want to show through the boycott that this is unacceptable now and in the future.

Jokerit and HIFK will play their first mutual match of the season on October 8 at Veikkaus Arena. The Jokerit supporter group Eteläpääty has also announced that they will boycott this home match.

HIFK’s supporter groups previously reported that they received a quota of 200 tickets from Jokerit for the first away match. This number was said to potentially rise to 350 tickets.

The capacity of Veikkaus Arena is 13,349 spectators.
