Harsh setback: NHL forward injured – will miss the Olympics!
Philadelphia Flyers’ Latvian forward Rodrigo Abols, 30, suffered an injury over the weekend in a game against the New York Rangers and had to leave the game.
Abols fell by the boards and his right leg twisted in an unfortunate way. The Flyers announced that they have placed Abols on the injured list due to a lower body injury.
Abols had been named to the Latvian team for the Olympics, but the injury prevents his Olympic trip. The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation reports on X that Abols will not participate in the Olympic tournament and will be replaced by Rihards Bukarts.
The loss of Abols is a significant setback for the Latvian team, as the country does not have many NHL players. With Abols’ absence, the NHL reinforcements for the Latvian Olympic team are Elvis Merzlikins, Arturs Silovs, Uvis Balinskis, Zemgus Girgensons, Teddy Blueger, and Sandis Vilmanis.
In his second season with the Flyers organization, Abols has recorded 10 points (3+7) in 42 games this season. In his international career, he has played once in the Olympics and a total of nine times in the World Championships.
