The Lions receive a strong reinforcement for their World Championship team.

The Ice Hockey Association confirmed that Mikael Granlund is joining the national team. Granlund’s club team, the Anaheim Ducks, recently finished their NHL season.

Already during Friday’s match against Germany, it was reported from the Lions’ team that they had been in contact with Granlund. However, it was not yet stated what Granlund’s response was at that time.

– Mikke brings a tremendous amount of experience from international games, leadership, and versatile skills to the team, GM Jere Lehtinen described in a statement.

Granlund was last seen in the Finnish jersey at the February Olympics. In the Milano–Cortina tournament, he recorded 2+1 points and was part of leading Finland to the bronze medals.

In the World Championships, Granlund has represented Finland previously in the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2022, and 2024. He has won the championship in 2011 and 2022.
