Finland’s NHL prospect with a great night: career-opening goal!
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-4 in Finnish time early Saturday morning. The Devils’ Finnish prospect Lenni Hämeenaho was named the second star of the game, scoring 1+1 and marking his first points in the NHL.
Hämeenaho scored the opening goal of the game, which was his first in the NHL. A shot from the blue line by Simon Nemec bounced off the boards to Hämeenaho at the corner of the net, where the Finn shot the puck past Kevin Lankinen with a backhand.
In the second period, Hämeenaho shot the puck towards the net from near the blue line, and Cody Glass redirected it into the back of the net.
Hämeenaho played just over ten minutes in the game. This was his third game in the NHL.
The Devils selected Hämeenaho in the 2nd round (#58) in 2023. He has played the start of the season in the AHL with the Utica Comets, recording 21 points in 33 games with 9+12.
