Fierce revelation: A harsh announcement from Rangers to Artemi Panarin
NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman has made an interesting revelation about New York Rangers star forward Artemi Panarin. According to Friedman, the Rangers have informed Panarin that he will not be receiving a contract extension at the end of the season.
The Rangers are not making the playoffs this season. Therefore, the team surely wants to trade Panarin to invest in their future.
Panarin has a no-trade clause in his contract. The 34-year-old winger could theoretically choose to play out the season with the Rangers if he wanted. However, it is more likely that he will agree to be traded to a championship-contending team for the remainder of the season and sign a longer deal in free agency this summer.
The 34-year-old Panarin is having another effective season. He has recorded 51 points in 47 games with 16 goals and 35 assists.
Panarin’s contract has an average annual salary of $11.6 million. The Rangers could potentially retain part of the amount to get a better price for the Russian forward.
