Elliotte Friedman: will Jarmo Kekäläinen make trades with Edmonton?
NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman discussed the Edmonton Oilers’ goaltending situation in his 32 Thoughts podcast. According to him, the Oilers are interested in making a trade with the Buffalo Sabres. The Oilers have their eyes on goaltender Alex Lyon.
– They have done their homework on him, and they have been following him this season as well. They have called the Sabres about him a couple of times in recent weeks, Friedman reveals.
– I wouldn’t be surprised if Edmonton calls Buffalo on Friday as well, unless they have already done so.
Buffalo’s new GM Jarmo Kekäläinen may be quite interested in trading Lyon. Buffalo currently has three goaltenders, of which Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is under a long-term contract, and Colten Ellis was praised highly by Kekäläinen in a media event arranged for Finnish media.
Lyon has played 18 games this season for Buffalo with a save percentage of 90.4. His annual salary is 1.5 million dollars, and he has one more season left on his contract.
On Friday, Kekäläinen commented to Finnish media that he is in no hurry to reduce the number of his goaltenders until there is better clarity on the health situation.
