A new player for Leijonat – this man will replace Eemil Erholtz.
The Lions’ Eemil Erholtz World Championship came to an end on Thursday when the forward representing Kärpät suffered a head injury in a match that ended with a crushing 7-1 victory against Latvia.
The Ice Hockey Association announced late Thursday that Erholtz will be replaced by Sami Päivärinta, who played for HPK during the regular season and was previously sent home from the tournament due to NHL reinforcements.
Päivärinta played 56 regular season games in the recently concluded Liiga season, scoring 16+25=41 points. In nine playoff games, he recorded 5+2=7 points.
The 22-year-old Päivärinta, who made his national team debut this season, has played seven A-international matches this season, with a scoring record of 1+4=5.
The Lions’ World Championship journey continues on Friday at 21:20 with a match against Great Britain.
