Edmonton made a tough decision – a harsh news for the high-paid flop goalie
The Edmonton Oilers’ ongoing goaltender carousel took a new turn on Sunday.
Team head coach Kris Knoblauch revealed to the media that going forward, Connor Ingram will serve as the Oilers’ number one goalie. In contrast, Tristan Jarry, who was acquired mid-season, will be sidelined as he focuses on training and regaining his confidence.
Jarry arrived in Edmonton in December in a controversial player trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the opposite direction was sent the former number one goalie Stuart Skinner, who had long been criticized by fans and the media.
The trade was supposed to solve the Oilers’ goaltending problem, but the outcome has been completely the opposite: Jarry, who earns 5.3 million dollars a season, has had a dismal start with the Oilers. The Canadian goalie has played 15 games in Edmonton with a save percentage of 85.5 and an average of 4.17 goals against.
Ingram, who arrived in the Oilers mid-season, has performed significantly more convincingly than his counterpart. He has recorded statistics of 2.79 and 89.1 in 20 games.
The Oilers desperately need successes from their goaltending department right now, as the team is currently fighting for the last playoff spots in the NHL’s Western Conference.
