Colorado Avalanche’s Russian forward Valeri Nitshushkin was involved in a car accident on his way to the team’s game against the Washington Capitals on Monday evening.

Head coach Jared Bednar told the press that Nitshushkin was slightly injured in the accident.

Nitshushkin was examined at the arena before the start of the game, but he was not cleared to play. His condition will be reassessed the following day.

The 30-year-old power forward has appeared in 38 NHL games this season, scoring 11 goals and 16 assists for a total of 27 points.

Avalanche defeated the Capitals in the game with a score of 5–2.
