Aleksandr Ovetshkin, 40, may decide to end his long hockey career after this season. He no longer has a contract for next season, and the forward has not yet shown clear interest in a new deal.
Last night’s regular season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets may have been Ovetshkin’s last. The Russian forward commented on the continuation of his career to the media after the game.
– I hope this wasn’t my last game. I don’t know what will happen. We’ll see, Ovetshkin commented.
– Fans came all the way from Washington to watch the game. It was really nice. I heard their cheers and how they shouted “One more year.” That’s important. It shows a lot of respect. Thank you for the support.
If last night’s game was Ovetshkin’s last in his career, it was a great ending. The Washington Capitals defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1. Ovetshkin assisted on his team’s winning goal on the power play at the end of the third period.
