Criticism from Finland and Sweden for the World Championships: “It’s a cold fact”
The Finns and Swedes had relatively easy games on Friday, as Finland crushed Great Britain 4–0 and Sweden also had no difficulties in their 3–0 victory against Italy.
Great Britain had no chances against the Lions, even though Mat Robson in goal did everything he could.
– It is a cold fact that such games should not be in the World Championships, Ville Nieminen stated in the Viaplay studio.
The game was constantly in the British defensive zone.
– NHL players come to play such games after a long season. I don’t believe they would want such games, Nieminen huffed.
The Viaplay expert noted that there are too many World Championship countries, as smaller nations have not taken developmental steps in his opinion.
– Ten years ago, it was said that it had become more even, but in recent years, there have been significant gaps.

Sweden’s former head coach Johan Garpenlöv was on the same line as Nieminen.
Garpenlöv commented on the tournament for Sveriges Radio.
– Too many bad teams, too many group games, the tournament lasts too long. The Olympics and World Cup with the best players make the World Championships uninteresting. And with Russia and Belarus out, the level suffers. Athletically, the World Championships with the current system is a disaster.
