The semifinal match between Canada and the United States has been quite an emotional battle.
The first period got off to a fiery start. United States defender Ryan Lindgren flattened Canada’s star defender Evan Bouchard with a brutal hit. Lindgren was sent to the showers for a head contact penalty.
The United States survived their five-minute penalty. Later, Max Sasson took a two-minute penalty for violence during which Macklin Celebrini scored to put Canada ahead 1-0.
Despite the penalties, the match has been surprisingly even. After the first period, shots were in favor of Canada 14-10 despite all the power play minutes.
