KooKoo has mutually terminated the player contract of Hungarian forward Domán Szongoth that was set to last until next season. KooKoo states that Szongoth will be moving to a North American junior league.

Szongoth, 18, played the last three seasons in KooKoo’s juniors. Last season, he recorded 28 points (10+18) in 44 games in the U20 SM league.

– In the upcoming super season, the integration of young players into the Liiga is very challenging. We decided in discussions with Domán to terminate his contract, which was valid until the 2026–2027 season, and Doman will move to a North American junior league, commented KooKoo’s sports director Antti Tuomenoksa in the club’s statement.

Buffalo Sabres drafted Szongoth this summer in the NHL in the 5th round with the 156th pick. Despite his young age, Szongoth has represented Hungary in the men’s World Championships for the past two springs.
