The Lahti Pelicans and forward Lukas Zetterberg are in the middle of a peculiar contract mess.

According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, the Pelicans and Zetterberg are in the process of terminating their mutual contract. The paper reports that the winger would be returning to his former club Västerås IK.

However, the contract has not been terminated. It seems that the Pelicans and Västerås have not reached an agreement on the details.

Vestmanlands Läns Tidning has reported that Zetterberg has been a familiar sight in the stands at Västerås’ practice matches. This is despite the fact that the Swedish forward still has a valid contract with the Pelicans. In an interview, Zetterberg admits that he no longer intends to play for the Pelicans.

Last season, Zetterberg appeared in 26 games for the Pelicans and fell short of the expectations set for him. The Swedish player, brought in as a goal scorer, recorded stats of 6+4=10.
