Chicago Blackhawks’ star Connor Bedard has undergone surgery on his left shoulder on Wednesday. The Blackhawks report that the 20-year-old Canadian forward is expected to be sidelined for about four months after the operation.

In practical terms, this means that Bedard will have to watch the first half of the regular season from the sidelines.

The young superstar injured his shoulder last week during practice. Bedard fell hard on his shoulder and left the ice immediately in apparent pain.

This setback comes for the Blackhawks at the worst possible time. The 2023 first overall pick is currently a restricted free agent and does not yet have a new contract with the team.

In NHL circles, the value of Bedard’s next contract is estimated to rise to over 15 million dollars per season, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in league history.

Bedard finished the last season with 30+45=75 points in 69 regular season games. Throughout his NHL career, Bedard has played 219 games and amassed an impressive 203 (75+128) points.
