The Columbus Blue Jackets have secured their most important offseason extension just before the start of the NHL season.

The team announced late Thursday that they have signed star center Adam Fantilli, 21, to a six-year contract. The total value of the contract is $82.5 million.

Fantilli will earn an average of $13.75 million per season from his new extension.

Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell did not hide his satisfaction after the long negotiations came to a conclusion.

– Adam Fantilli has all the qualities you want from a player: speed, size, and skill. In addition, he has a tremendous competitive drive and a desire to succeed.

– He is one of the most exciting young players in the NHL and a big part of everything we are building in Columbus, Waddell commented in the team’s announcement.

Columbus drafted Fantilli as the third overall pick in the NHL Draft in the summer of 2023.

The Canadian center played all 82 regular season games last season, recording 24+35=59 points.
