Carolina Hurricanes announces that Finnish defenseman Anttoni Honka will not be receiving a contract extension offer.
The 24-year-old Honka will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on Tuesday, meaning he can freely sign a contract with any NHL team. Honka was originally Hurricanes’ 3rd round pick in the 2019 draft.
Carolina Hurricanes also announced the release of Ty Smith and Yaniv Perets.
During the past season, Honka played on loan in the Swiss top league with the team HC Ajoie. In the preceding season, the skilled defenseman played on loan for JYP in 48 Liiga games, recording 2+21=23 points.
