Carolina received a good offer for Jesperi Kotkaniemi – deals expected this summer?
Forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi has likely played his last games in a Carolina Hurricanes jersey. The Finnish forward was not included in Carolina’s active lineup during the playoff run that led to the championship.
Now NHL reporter Frank Seravalli has revealed that trading Kotkaniemi could have been possible earlier last season.
– I know that a team from the Western Conference made what they thought was a good offer to Carolina for Jesperi Kotkaniemi at the trade deadline, but they were told no. Carolina felt they couldn’t get a better backup for their center position, Seravalli says.
Carolina is unlikely to be interested in keeping an expensive backup on their roster anymore. Kotkaniemi’s annual salary is $4.82 million. In the regular season, he scored nine points in 42 games.
