Canada strengthens just before the start of the World Championships with two NHL forwards. The team arriving in Switzerland as the biggest favorite for the championship adds Porter Martone and Dawson Mercer (in the article image) to its ranks.

The only 19-year-old Martone is one of the hottest names of the spring. The young player made his NHL debut only at the end of the regular season but managed to score 10 points in nine games with 4+6=10, immediately rising to major headlines.

The forward, drafted sixth in last summer’s NHL draft, continued his strong form in the playoffs as well. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect collected 5 points in 10 playoff games with 2+3=5.

Mercer, representing the New Jersey Devils, brings additional speed to Canada’s offense. The 24-year-old winger played a full 82 regular season games in the NHL with a performance of 20+22=42. The upcoming World Championships will be the third of his career.

Canada’s World Championship journey begins immediately with a tough test, as they face Sweden in a top match played in Fribourg on Friday.
