Cale Makar: unprecedented NHL contract!
Cale Makar continues with the Colorado Avalanche defense with a record-breaking NHL contract.
The 27-year-old Canadian star defenseman has signed an eight-year extension with Colorado worth a total of $163.2 million. The average annual value of the contract is $20.4 million.
Makar’s new contract makes him the highest-paid player in NHL history both in total value and annual salary. He is also the first NHL player to have annual earnings exceeding $20 million.
The annual salary record held for only a moment. The San Jose Sharks agreed at the end of July with Macklin Celebrini on an extension that guarantees the forward $18.8 million in annual income.
Makar played 75 regular season games last season. The Colorado Avalanche defenseman collected 79 points in those games, with 20 goals and 59 assists.
The Norris Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s best defenseman, has gone to Makar twice.
We have signed defenseman Cale Makar to an eight-year contract extension through the 2034-35 season.
