Boston Bruins attempted a $63 million blockbuster trade – this is where it all fell apart
The name of Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson circulated in NHL trade rumors for over a year. Ultimately, he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in January.
One of the teams left empty-handed regarding Andersson was the Boston Bruins. NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman revealed in his 32 Thoughts podcast that the Bruins had even offered Andersson a massive contract extension that would be signed as part of the trade.
– Boston had $63 million on the table. Several Calgary players thought Andersson would take it, but then the Golden Knights stepped in, decided that the game was over, and that we would acquire this player, Friedman said.
A $63 million contract would have potentially meant a $9 million annual salary for Andersson and a deal lasting seven seasons.
With Vegas, Andersson has not yet secured a contract extension. He has played two games with the team so far, with stats of 1+1.
