New York Islanders’ megastar Matthew Schaefer made history in last night’s NHL round by scoring two goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Schaefer became the youngest defenseman in NHL history to score at least two goals in a single game. He achieved this at the age of 18 years and 58 days.
The previous record was held by defenseman legend Bobby Orr, who scored two goals at the age of 18 years and 248 days in November 1966.
Drafted first overall into the NHL last summer, Schaefer has had an incredible start to his rookie season. The Canadian has impressive stats of 5+5=10 in 12 games. Schaefer leads both the rookie scoring race and the defensemen goal scoring race.
