Big burden off – Edmonton made a big deal in the NHL!
Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks have made a player trade, in which defenseman Darnell Nurse moves to the Sharks.
The Oilers receive in exchange Russian defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin and American defenseman Zack Sharp’s player rights.
The most significant benefit of the trade for Edmonton is that the team can get rid of Nurse’s contract, which runs until 2030 and has an annual value of $9.25 million. Edmonton does not retain any of Nurse’s salary as part of the trade.
The New Jersey Devils selected Mukhamadullin in the first round of the NHL Draft in 2020. The 24-year-old Russian is currently without a contract.
In the trade, the Oilers also received Sharp’s player rights. The San Jose Sharks drafted the 21-year-old American defenseman in the fourth round of last year’s NHL Draft, two years overage. Sharp played 37 games in the recently concluded NCAA season and recorded 5+14=19 points.
The Sharks acquire Darnell Nurse from the Oilers.
