Auston Matthews was brutally taken out in the NHL – a familiar face involved
In the Milan Olympics, the Canadian captain Sidney Crosby was tackled by Czech defender Radko Gudas and is once again in the headlines due to a brutal hit.
Gudas, representing the Anaheim Ducks, tackled Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews directly on the knee during last night’s NHL round.
The Toronto captain fell to the ice in the incident and held his leg. Matthews was unable to continue the game and left for the locker room during the match.
The referees gave Gudas a five-minute penalty and ejection.
Toronto was still trailing 2–3 in the third period but ultimately turned the game around and won 6–4. This also ended the Maple Leafs’ eight-game losing streak.
Before his injury, Matthews also managed to score a goal. The goal was important for him as he had played 12 games without scoring prior to that.
