The Toronto Maple Leafs’ disappointing season has sparked trade rumors in hockey-crazy Canada.

The bold commentator Nick Kypreos even raises the possibility of the Leafs blowing up their entire current roster. To support his view, Kypreos suggests trading superstar Auston Matthews if the team were to part ways with Mitch Marner this summer, which would completely turn a new page for the franchise.

Kypreos identifies the Los Angeles Kings as a potential trade partner. According to Kypreos, the move could happen next summer.

– It would be a real power move. The Kings need a replacement for Anze Kopitar. Unless you get four pieces back for Matthews, you could at least get three quality assets. The Leafs would need a center. I don’t know if the Kings would be willing to part with Quinton Byfield. I would also like to see a defenseman as part of the trade package, Kypreos speculates.

One possible trade package could include Byfield, 22-year-old top defenseman Brandt Clarke, forward Alex Turcotte, and a first-round draft pick.

Byfield would give Toronto a new top center while Turcotte would add much-needed depth to the offense. Clarke, on the other hand, could be the Leafs’ top defenseman in the future and a replacement for Morgan Rielly.
