Antti Pennanen’s direct revelation: Konsta Helenius to the top chain!
The Finnish national ice hockey team gains additional depth in its offense as Konsta Helenius joins the Lions’ roster on Thursday in Zurich.
According to head coach Antti Pennanen, the 20-year-old forward is expected to play a significant role in the team’s top lines as the tournament progresses.
– Helenius will arrive tomorrow morning and will not play yet tomorrow (against Latvia). As it stands, he will play against Great Britain. As an offensive player, he will find his place in the top lines, Pennanen said.
Helenius joins the Lions’ journey from North America, where he has primarily played in the AHL with the Rochester Americans and has also made a few NHL appearances with the Buffalo Sabres. He made his NHL debut this season.
In the regular season, Helenius played nine NHL games with stats of 1+3. In the playoffs, he performed impressively in four games, scoring two goals. The Sabres’ season ended in the early hours of Tuesday morning when the Montreal Canadiens eliminated the team in the seventh game.
Finland continues its World Championship tournament on Thursday against Latvia in a match starting at 17:20.
