Antero Mertaranta’s surprising regional takeover – jump into the ring in Tallinn
The voice of the Lion’s games at the World Championships for three decades, Antero Mertaranta, will be seen this weekend in a completely new role. The 70-year-old legend will serve as the ring announcer for the Beazt Night fight night taking place in Tallinn on Saturday.
The event organizers are showcasing Mertaranta’s participation prominently.
– The voice of Beazt Fight in the cage is a man whose comments hit as hard and iconically as the strikes exchanged in the ring. Antero Mertaranta is the experienced heartbeat of sports and the most quoted Finnish person behind the microphone. When Antza is involved, the show can begin, the event’s Instagram account exclaims.
Among the most talked-about encounters of the fight night in Tallinn is the boxing match between Aleksi Valavuori and Kalle Palander, which has been built up on social media for a long time.
In the main event of the evening, Omar Tugarev will face former UFC star Alex Oliveira.
Although Mertaranta left the commentary for the Lions’ World Championship games in the spring of 2025, the blue-and-white voice has not yet been able to retire. The commentary legend continues to comment on Liiga matches on MTV.
Additionally, Mertaranta can be heard weekly on the Mertaranta & Saariluoma podcast, which he has co-hosted with Jaakko Saariluoma since the beginning of this year.
On Saturday, the legendary commentator’s voice will be heard in the ring for the first time.
