An embarrassing statistic was revealed about Olli Jokinen
Olli Jokinen experienced disappointment again as HIFK was eliminated by KalPa in the decisive match with a goal from Juuso Könönen. At the same time, Jokinen’s unusual coaching career statistic continued: he has yet to win a single playoff series.
Jokinen previously coached Jukurit for three seasons and Timrå for one. All seasons share the fact that the playoffs ended in the first round.
With Jukurit, there were good regular season placements – second, eleventh, and fifth – but in the playoffs, the journey ended in the quarterfinals. In spring 2022, KooKoo won the series 4–3, and in spring 2024, Kärpät won 4–2.
The pattern also repeated in Sweden: Timrå was third in the regular season, but Frölunda eliminated the team with a 4–2 victory last spring.
What is exceptional is that the same theme is visible in his playing career. Jokinen won the championship with HIFK in 1998, deciding the finals against Ilves, but since then he has not won a single playoff series.
During his long NHL career, Jokinen played 1231 regular season games but appeared in the playoffs only once: the Calgary Flames were eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round in 2009.
