An awkward episode was captured on camera – Aleksandr Ovetshkin’s gesture is confusing
NHL legends Aleksandr Ovetshkin and Sidney Crosby faced off possibly for the last time in the NHL last night, as the Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3–0.
After the game, a peculiar situation arose when Ovetshkin did not participate in the traditional handshake, instead waving the Penguins players off the ice. Pittsburgh left for the locker room without handshakes, while Ovetshkin stayed to thank the home crowd.
According to ESPN, the captains later met inside the arena and exchanged sticks.
The situation may have been related to the standings, as the teams could still meet in the playoffs. Washington is still fighting for a playoff spot and needs a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the final round, along with help from others. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers should not win their own games.
