Petri Kontiola, who celebrated the Finnish championship with Tappara in spring 2024, has hinted that he is interested in coaching positions at the club.

Kontiola published a picture in his Instagram stories, where he stands in a suit next to the championship trophy on the rink.

– I am ready!

He complemented the post with a blue and orange heart, referring to Tappara’s team colors.

Kontiola’s announcement comes at an interesting time, as Tappara’s head coach Kari Jalonen unexpectedly ended his career on Monday. He was replaced by assistant coach Fredrik Norrena, creating a vacancy in the club’s coaching staff.

Kontiola mentioned in an interview with Klang back in September that he is interested in a Liiga coaching position.

– When you look at who is there, I could definitely be one of them. I don’t want any big rewards for it; those salaries can be saved for player acquisitions, he commented at that time.

Kontiola has no previous coaching experience. He ended his playing career with Tappara’s championship in spring 2024.
