The Vegas Golden Knights selected defenseman Juho Piiparinen, 18, in the summer draft. Vegas may not be satisfied with his role as a defenseman in Tappara.

Vegas’ player development coach Wil Nichol recently gave a rare candid statement about Piiparinen’s situation in an interview with NHL.com.

– If he plays the right minutes and everything goes well in Tappara, then fine. But if not, the London Knights will surely be waiting for him, and that would also be a good place for Juho to play, Nichol said.

Now Piiparinen’s move to the OHL seems more likely. The London Knights have made a trade and let go of the Swedish player Linus Funck. This has opened up a spot in their foreign player quota that the team can use for Piiparinen.

Opens an import slot for the Knights to sign one of Marcus Nordmark (ANA) or Juho Piiparinen (VGK).
