A relieving victory for the Lions! A collapse in the final period is close to leading to disaster.
The Lions secured a 4-2 victory against the Czech Republic on Saturday. Finland played two excellent periods but was close to collapsing in the third period.
Finland took the lead right from the first minutes. Arttu Ruotsalainen managed to strike the puck into the net from close range.
In the second period, Finland continued to score. First, Leevi Tukiainen lifted the puck into the top of the net from a breakaway. Towards the end of the period, Sakari Manninen redirected the puck in with his skate just as Finland’s power play was ending.
In the third period, the Czech Republic raised their game while Finland’s level dropped. For the last 20 minutes, Finland was on the receiving end. First, Dominik Kubalik narrowed the score to 3-1, and at the end of the period, Radim Zohorna brought his team within a goal.
Finally, Jere Innala secured the game for Finland. He moved the puck into the empty net in the last minute.
The Lions’ games continue on Sunday with a match against Sweden. The game starts at 17:00.
