Florida Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk returned to his team’s practice on Sunday after a long absence.

Tkachuk has been sidelined for the entire early season due to an injury. He underwent surgery in August.

Although returning to the ice is a step in the right direction, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice does not consider it likely that Tkachuk will be seen in the outdoor game on Friday.

– There are a whole bunch of things he has to get through, and the question is whether there is enough time.

– He might be healthy enough or close enough to play. But we’re not guessing on that. There are numbers he has to hit, Maurice says on the NHL website.
