A harsh setback for the Lions! Another player’s tournament is over.
ZÜRICH. The Lions continued their strong performance in the World Championships on Thursday. This time, Finland crushed Latvia with a score of 7-1.
In the second period of the match, the coaching staff of the Lions changed the lines. Winger Eemil Erholtz was sidelined from Finland’s third line, and stepping in was Janne Kuokkanen, who had played as the 13th forward.
After the match, the head coach of the Lions, Antti Pennanen, revealed that it was not just a regular line change but an injury.
– It seems that the tournament is over for him. A major injury, Pennanen stated.
The Lions’ team was supposed to be ready, but a new player will still be brought in to replace Erholtz.
– The list is ready. That also needs to be clarified first, so we know tomorrow’s lineups and who will come in.
Injuries have hit the Lions hard this spring. Urho Vaakanainen is out of Finland’s defense due to an injury. Teuvo Teräväinen’s tournament ended with an arm injury right after the first match.
Aside from the unfortunate injury, Pennanen was satisfied with the Latvia match.
– We played well. The first shift didn’t bother us at all. We played really well in the first and the whole 20 minutes, and actually the entire 60 minutes. All four lines had successes. It certainly warms the heart.
