A bold move from Canada for the World Championships!
Canada heads to the ice hockey World Championships under the leadership of an exceptionally young captain. Just 19 years old, Macklin Celebrini wears the C on Canada’s jersey in the tournament starting in Switzerland.
Celebrini has risen among the brightest young stars in the NHL this season. The San Jose Sharks forward scored an impressive 115 points during the season. He was also in great form at the Milan Olympics, finishing with five goals and a total of ten points in six games.
The Canadian coaching staff wants to surround their young star with experience. Veteran NHL players John Tavares and Ryan O’Reilly have been named as alternate captains.
Canada plays in Group B of the World Championships alongside Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Slovakia, Norway, Slovenia, and Italy. Canada will face Sweden in their opening game of the tournament.
