This Finnish NHL star is expected to make a big turnaround – direct assessment from the site: “Not good enough”
Chicago Blackhawks’ Finnish forward Teuvo Teräväinen had a quiet last season in the NHL, recording 35 points in 75 games with 14 goals and 21 assists. For example, in the season before last, Teräväinen recorded 58 points.
The Hockey News highlighted Teräväinen among the Chicago team, from whom much more is expected. The site considers Teräväinen a candidate to bounce back to a better level next season.
– Teuvo Teräväinen was acquired by the Chicago Blackhawks in the role of an experienced point producer. He has had his moments, but the organization expects more from him. He is not good enough defensively to compensate for the lack of offensive production, THN assesses.
Teräväinen, who started his NHL career in Chicago, subsequently played eight seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes. Now he has two seasons back in Chicago. In his best NHL season, Teräväinen scored 76 points.
– The 31-year-old Teräväinen may still have many good NHL years ahead, but he would need to return to his previous level in terms of points. Part of it depends on his role in the team, but he has the ability to play better than a year ago, regardless of which line he plays on.
– The Blackhawks’ offense is broader due to acquisitions made over the summer, which almost guarantees Teräväinen a strong line mate. This also means they will not play players who do not contribute on the ice. This gives Teräväinen an incentive to get back on track.
Teräväinen’s current NHL contract still covers the upcoming season. He earns 5.4 million dollars for the season.
