A big hint about the future of Florida’s master goalie Sergei Bobrovsky
The massive seven-year, 70 million dollar contract of Sergei Bobrovsky, who led the Florida Panthers to two consecutive Stanley Cup championships, will end after this season. The 37-year-old Russian, who has been awarded the NHL’s best goaltender twice, has played in the league for 16 seasons.
There has been much speculation about the man’s future. The Panthers reached the Stanley Cup finals in the last three seasons, leading to media speculation about how much gas the heavily used goaltender has left in the tank for potential continuation.
Now, respected NHL insider reporter Elliotte Friedman has also weighed in on the matter. According to him, Bobrovsky is not hanging up his skates after this season.
– He made it clear to me that he does not intend to retire and that he wants to stay with the Panthers, Friedman says on his 32 Thoughts podcast.
In any case, the Russian will have to settle for a significantly lower compensation than his previous annual salary of 10 million dollars.
The star goaltender’s past season has been challenging, much like the rest of the team. He has played 52 games with an average goals against of 3.07 and a save percentage of 87.7.
The reigning champion team’s season in the NHL will end with the regular season.
