Wayne Gretzky visited the HBO Max studio on the day of the Olympic semifinals.
Gretzky mentioned after the semifinal match between Finland and Canada that one player from the Canadian team has particularly impressed him. He is the San Jose Sharks’ first overall pick for the summer of 2024, 19-year-old superstar Macklin Celebrini.
– The last time I saw something like that happen was in 1985 when Jari Kurri and I played with 19-year-old Esa Tikkanen (with the Edmonton Oilers). It’s all about confidence, Gretzky emphasized.
In his second season in the NHL, Celebrini has recorded impressive stats of 28+53=81 in 55 games with the Sharks. In the Olympic tournament, he has strong points of 5+5=10 in five games.
