Oulu’s Kärpät is preparing a significant trade behind the scenes. According to Urheilucast’s host Esko Seppänen, 24-year-old Aku Räty may play the rest of the season with the Tampereen Ilves team.

– Kärpät and Ilves have been in intense negotiations about where Räty will play for the rest of the season and how much it will cost, Seppänen told Urheilucast.

Räty’s contract also covers next season, so it would apparently be a loan. According to Seppänen, Kärpät has not yet completely given up on the season, but a decision is close.

– The transfer window for the SHL is already closed, and budgets in the SM-liiga are limited. But the one to definitely keep an eye on is this axis: if Kärpät decides to press the button, it concerns Aku Räty and the teams are Kärpät and Ilves, Seppänen clarified.

Räty has been Kärpät’s absolute top player this season. The forward, who returned from the NHL, has accumulated 44 games with points of 20+29=49 and has been his team’s best goal scorer and point producer.
