The SHL team in Linköping has a peculiar problem. The team has too many defensemen.

Linköping’s defensive lineup consists of nine players. Since only seven defensemen can be named in the lineup, it means that two always have to sit in the stands. In the latest match, Max Martin, 27, and David Bernhardt, 28, were left out of the lineup.

– One can imagine that it is quite a luxury for the team to leave two such accomplished defensemen in the stands, but at the same time, an incredible amount of money is flowing down the drain, which could be used for other players, it is written in Expressen.

It remains to be seen when Linköping will notice the same thing and sell one of the defensemen elsewhere.

Of the duo, Bernhardt is a familiar name in the league. He played for SaiPa and HIFK for a total of nearly two seasons. In 78 matches, he collected 18 points.

Since returning to Sweden, Bernhardt has played several strong seasons. In MoDo, he scored 51 points in the HockeyAllsvenskan during the 2022-23 season. In the SHL during the 2024-25 season, the defenseman racked up 32 points.

Martin, on the other hand, has previously played in the AHL, ECHL, and HockeyAllsvenskan. Last season, he played 52 matches in Linköping with stats of 0+16.
