Finnish forward Patrik Puistola will be out on a long sick leave in Sweden.

Puistola, who represents Frölunda, is estimated to be sidelined for 4–6 weeks due to an injury sustained in Saturday’s match. This was reported by the Swedish newspaper Hockeynews.se.

Puistola was injured in the second period of the match against Björklöven when a shot from teammate Linus Högberg hit him hard. Puistola fell to the ice in pain and could no longer continue the game. Frölunda’s head coach Robert Ohlsson stated after the match that Puistola had to go to the hospital.

According to Hockeynews, Frölunda’s sports director Fredrik Sjöström provided more details about Puistola’s situation to Göteborgs-Posten on Monday.

– He took a shot to a bad area and had to undergo a minor procedure, which went well. However, he will remain under observation but will be able to go home today, Sjöström told GP.

Puistola, who moved to Frölunda this season, had scored 2+2 points in eight games before his injury. Last spring, Puistola won gold with the Lions at the World Championships, finishing the tournament with 4+1 points in ten games.
